Why do we get fat as we gat older and yet we eat less?



Answers:
Especially if your work is desk work (or any kind where you sit most of the day), the answer is pretty simple-- you are losing muscle. Muscle burns calories 24 hours a day just by its need to stay warm. Without a demand placed on it (Running, Lifting weights, Yoga, Construction-- the list goes on), your body is very efficient at dropping muscle and also efficient at storing energy (fat).

Young or old, get back in the gym, learn it right with some guidance, and put some muscle back on. Then, within months, a piece of cake is just a piece of cake-- not a guilt trip.

Additionally, since metabolism is being repeatedly discussed, your muscles are what comprise a major percentage of your metabolism, and are the most adjustable. You cannot change the size of your internal organs by much, for example-- but muscles can adapt for decades.

well, im 13, but ur metabolism gets lower, therefore, ur body doesnt naturally burn calories/fat as easily as it did when u were young. so basically, ur metabolism is lower and doesnt work as fast and efficiently as a young persons.
Our metabolism slows down and we utilize our energy differently.

After puberty, you no longer need that much food (for growth). If you don't adjust your diet (notably carbohydrates and fat), you would get fatter and fatter after puberty.

the body metabolism comes down as one ages and hence we tend on to put more weight.
Our body regenerates less. We move less. Our cells have found the way to exist without undergoing frequent replacement and being more lazy!

Girl i have the same problem its because as we age our metabolism slow all the way down so lots of exercise and water for us going down road.
speak for yourself. im 48 and size 10..i work out regulary and eat sensibly.ive been told i look 35!! trust me if i can do it anyone can
Because when we start thinking our self older we become lazier and then we get fat .
Fattening can be a result of the slowing in our metabolism. metabolism is the name given to the process of food digestion and break down on the food and absortion by our body.
because our metabolism slows down, happens from around 30, yuk! x
Our metabolism slows down as we get older, just eat healthily, exercise properly and drink 2 litres of water a day.
