Would you be seen dead in a pair of trainers that retailed for $3?
Or would you be seen in a pair that cost $3 to make and retailed for £150?

Of course I would. It's not the price, it's how they look. Just because a pair of trainers costs £150 it doesn't mean they'll be comforable or look any decent. All it is is a logo and name, and whatever is associated with that logo/name.
Really, it's a bit vain to only buy £150 trainers - the money saved could be put doing something bigger and better!

first off i dont wear trainers and i guess it would depend on what they look like
most of my shirts though cost $50 mostly claiborne and perry ellis but they are hella good looking shirts so they are worth it

If a $3 trainer is comfortable and looks okay, I'd buy it as a disposable item, wear it a few weeks and throw it away.

However true fashion individuals would go for the $3 pair. That's how torn and faded jeans came about and now cost silly money. It was the true fashion individuals that wore the bum out of the jeans and then someone started marketing worn jeans for hundreds of pounds with the label.
