Whats the best thing for dark hair thats going grey?
Im 23 yrs old and have been battling my grey hair since I was 17.The problem is my natural hair colour is dark brown so the grey really stands out.I was having regular appointments at my salon and having clip-mech done in several different colours to lighten my hair and disguise the grey. However my hair just kept on getting lighter and it really didnt suit my pale complexion, so I stopped going and went to dyeing my hair at home dark every 4-6wks. But I hate it that you can see my grey so obviously when it grows through. Any ideas on what I can do? Cheers

I think you have to face reality and just accept you are going grey! At least you're not going balled! My ex was almost balled since he was 20! So your only choice is to keep on dyeing it, or just go natural and accept it!
A wig? Not one that'll make you look embarrassing - one that you can style to meet your needs. They need looking after, so you need to find out if it's cheaper than hair dye.
Check out www.lush.co.uk for henna
You can't fight genes hon! Get some streaks.they camouflage the grey..the thinner the streaks the better.
There's a dye that's come out in england recently that you apply to the roots with a mascara wand type thingy! Think it's by l'oreal
Hi! I went grey at 18, like my grandmother. It ws OK at first, but then I started to hate it. My natural colour is nearly black. I tried to get it back to that colour but it didn't look right. Then a hairdresser said that my natural hair colour is based on red, which was a surprise, and that red would suit me. So, now I have an all-over mid-brown base, with thin strips blocked off with foil, then those bits are coloured with a light brown and a red. So three colours in all. Because the strips are thin, it looks fairly natural. Grey hair isn't so shiny, so it helps it look less flat if you've got slightly different colours in it.
Your best bet is to talk to a colourist. Also make sure you've got a good cut. Good luck!
I have the same problem. Wash-in colours help, if you feel like you're constantly battling roots. Lots of companles do big bottles of wash-ins these days, so at least you don't have to spend a fortune all the time. Boots carry several brands. Superdrug do their own brand, but it smells like antiseptic!
just for men
a comb.
my hair was dark too, but it started turning white when I was 18.. I inherited it from my grand-parents, one on each side has their hair turn white before they were 25. I've never let it bother me. I used to blame it on my parents.. now I blame it on my kids.. :)
If you dress it properly, a natural color won't be bad. You can have a variation of the platinum blonde. Gray hair is not really that bad. I can think of worse.
If it bugs you that much, talk with a professional about coloring or a good wig. I say learn to enjoy it. Learn how to wear it. Clothes can help too. A big smile can also distract.
Mascara
Had same problem as you. What I did was colour my hair myself, but with a twist.
1) Don't use anything that has a hint of red in it.
2) Use BLACK but wash it out way before the time suggested, this gives your hair a very natural wash of darker colour, but not intense black, which looks false.
You will find after various experiements whether 5, 6 or 7 or 8 minutes of keeping colour on your hair is best. The result is a very natural dark grey look that doesn't look fake, or red.It is a bloody bore to do, but well worth it.
If you find that 5 minutes leaves the hair looking too light, put it on again for 6 minutes, or 7, until you find just the right timing.
If your hair grows very quickly, you can touch up the roots with an old toothbrush of colour, then wash out.
If you are a real perfectionist, you can also apply another "wash" of Dark Brown on top of the black, or in "streaks", so that your entire head doesn't look one dead colour. Again, only leave on for half the recommended time and experiment with streaks all over head----this gives a natural result as most people's hair is not all the same colour all over.
Save all your old toothbrushes, as these worked best for me.
My dad used to use something called Grecian 2000 in the 70's but not sure if you can still get it. It wasnt a dye but something you combed through your hair each day and made it dark. Ask at a pharmacy about this. Otherwise just accept it otherwise it will drive you crazy to have to think about dying your hair until you are about 50 when everyone else goes grey too. Make it part of your character.
I too had grey hairs starting to pop through at school and began dying it not long after.
It really depends on you. If you hate it like it seems the only way is to continue to dye it but please be careful, I'm now allergic to the PPD in regular dyes so use henna and indigo from hennaforhair.com I've been colouring this way for years.
You can also get some pretty cheap premixed powders from amphora aromatics (web search). Please be aware you must either mix the henna with the indigo or henna then indigo if you don't want all the grey to go coppery.
If your hair is very dark every grey strand will show up so once you have coloured your hair you may need to touch up the roots every couple of weeks depending on how quick your hair grows.
