How short can hair be before you can perm it?
My hair is an inch or two above my chin and it waves by itself but it just goes messy and looks thin"! i'm thinking of getting a really soft perm but i don't know if i should because i don't particularly want it above my chin or wreck it but it's in o.k condition right now and i'm dying it soon which i will then allow it time to repair itself after that. I have an oval face which concerns me as well but i have waved my hair overnight and it looked quite good, i also have a fringe and i'm thinking of having that as tight curls which i can sweep aside with clips or something but what do you think.i'm really confused because i really want wavy hair but i'm still a little worried.thanks for your help!

Well, I used to work in a hair salon, as a receptionist and I would always watch the hairdressers do their work.
You can have hair that is 2 inches long all around and it can still be permed. There are different size rods. If I remember I'm pretty sure the smallest ones are 1/4" in diameter. They would probably use 1/2" for your hair. My hair is a little past my chin and has layers and they used 3/4" or 1" for mine.
And oval face goes with any hairstyle, except for a middle part. Ask for a mild perm, or larger rods so it just gives your hair a little bit more of a wave. Just make sure you dye your hair a few weeks after the perm so it gives your hair a chance to relax. Don't do the color before the perm because it will strip the color and make it lighter.
I know you don't want to hear this, but I would STRONGLY advise you to go into a good hairdresser and ask for their advice. Just set up a consultation, they are usually free. TBH everyone answering this question hasn't SEEN your hair, so we can't judge. Sorry if this isn't very helpful.
