How sore are tattoo's?

i know they r pain ful in diffrent places but has any one had one how sore was it thinking of getting a little one on my bacj and wanted to know

Answers:
The outline when they first start hurts the most. After that your adrenelin kicks up and helps to numb the pain. If you're having a big piece done then concentrating on your breathing will help distract you from the pain. Also make sure that you are well rested and have eaten before you go in to have done - being tired and hungry will make it hurt more.

It might feel a bit prickly just after its done but that will go away quickly enough. Make sure you look after it properly so you don't have to go in a have alot of touch-ups done. And also don't pick/ stratch it if it gets itchy!
anyone who says it doesnt hurt.is a liar
the softer the place the more it hurts, hard places like your knuckles or skull are downright noisy. the outline hurts the most so if its your first, have a small one that should take about 25-30 minutes.
i have had 2 on my back and neither were sore at all afterwards, jus stings a little. if you spray savlon or something on that helps too. it depends a lot on how high your pain threshold is too. i wouldnt advise 1 at the top, across your shoulder blades. 1 of mine is just below and it really hurt! one at the bottom of my back didnt hurt at all.
feels like a bee sting while it's being done, and like a sunburn for about 3 days after..
Your back will hurt...your neck will hurt even more. I have a tattoo of a butterfly on the nape of my neck. It hurt like a MF! I drank a few beers while I got it.lol..they helped! Doesnt hurt after.just during! But they are sooooooo worth it!
depends on where on your back. i have 3 on my back. it hurts, but it's not as bad as you'd think. healing time will take about a week and will be sore for the first 3-4 days
Get one wear ppl who you don't want to see, won't see---like job manager's who are hiring ppl. They donn't hurt too much, u just gots to put bacitrecin on it twice a day 4 a week. I got mine on the underside of my foot on the place wear it won't come off. (the place between the balls of your feet and the heel.)
Oh my god how many people ask this question!! Y dont u put it in the asked questions and ull c!!

Sorry bout that,

Anyways I have a dragon up my spine and it was more like a burnung sensation than pain. the thought is worse than the tatoo itself. thats y so many people have them done, Its okay honest. the places that hurt the most r like the feet etc! Hope this helps
I got one on my inner ankle and part of it touches the bone. It was a bit nippy.
Wrist - quite nippy!

On your back should be fine. Depends where.

But once you get one, you'll be ready for another..
The soreness depends on the size and location. I have 16. The one that hurt the worst was on my toe! lol Right now one on my arm is healing up and it just feels like a mile sunburn. The ones up on my shoulders hurt the least.
It hurts!!!

But I have four so it doesn't hurt that much. The one on my stomache hurt more than the one on my back.

If you want one go for it and its not that bad.
i have two on my back and its more of an irritation when your getting them done rather than pain, after, mine were fine, no problems and no pain
I had one on my foot ten years ago, not sure if I could go through the pain again?

I personally would describe the sensation as glass cutting with a buzz.

Pain is all down to the individual take a pain killer before you get it done, and do not go around the time of your period as you will feel the pain even more!

There is one thing that no one mentions about tattoos and that is that there are itchy!
not sore at all
ok, had my first one a few weeks back. the outline is like a lit match being dragged across you, but the colouring on the inside is more like little scratches and some dont hurt. a small one should be sufferable!
the more bone .. or the more nerves . or the closer the bone is to the skin. the more pain!

they hurt . try a fatty area 1st ;)
I've got some on the back of my neck and shoulder and it didn't really hurt, its just a little stinging. You've probably had a worse sunburn. And if you've had kids, its a joke compared to that.
In my experience, the outlining of the tattoo was a breeze. Filling in was rough. The thin needle grouping used for the outline is so tiny compared to the larger flat grouping used to shade and fill in felt quite different.

After the tattoo was completed it felt similar to a bad sunburn. In other words, nothing I couldn't handle.

I have one tattoo on the back of my shoulder and painwise it wasn't much different than the ones on my feet, toe, or back of my neck and a lot less painful than the one on the inside of my calf.

The theory goes that the more fat or tissue there is, the less painful. My calves are nowhere near the bone and it was the most painful. The ones on my feet were quite near bone and weren't nearly as bad as my calf. So, your tattoo on your back may hurt, or it may not. You will only know once you have it done.

good luck
Mine have hurt me more than I'd hoped, but less than I'd feared. And never to the point that I wanted the tattooist to stop. It's like a burning sensation, and you can concentrate it away, if you get my drift.

Take a few strong painkillers before you go, they might not actually do anything but the placebo effect could well help.

Remember to think long and hard before you get it done, it'll be there for ever.

Good luck
it goes numb at the time just stings a bit after an hour but it dose wear off. I have 2 one on each shoulder. don't let anyone tell you it doesn't hurt because it dose.
Good luck
Tattoos are pigment inserted by needle subdermally, so will be reasonably uncomfortable on any part of your body. However, everyones pain tolerance is different, and the skill , or lack of, of your chosen tattooist will either make it a pleasant or unpleasant experience. Try not to drink alcohol before or during, do eat a decent meal and make sure it is well digested before having it done and keep it clean afterwards. A healthy diet will shorten the healing period, but it can take up to 14 days to heal fully even with the use of Vaseline or Savlon. If you are certain about getting a tattoo on your back, go and see a good tattoo artist, talk to him about what sort of thing you want and see if he will design something just for you ( a good tattoo artist wont do just off the wall designs), or design something yourself and take the design with you. The small of the back can sometimes be painful, especially if clothes are going to be rubbing against the design during the healing process, but is less painful than the spine and ribcage area. Hope this helps.
If somebody tells you it doesn't hurt, they are a liar! Keep in mind that the artist is using a NEEDLE and injecting ink into your skin. It feel like your skin is being cut. I got a tat on my hip and I almost told him to stop it hurt so bad! I heard they hurt less if you get it in a place that gets a lot of contact like your arm or your thigh. On a sensitive place like your back or your tummy, it's gonna hurt bad. Trust me!
I have four tattoos. One on my stomach, one on my right shoulder, one on my lower back, and one on my ankle. The one on my ankle hurt the worst. The closer to the bone, the more its going to hurt. It kinda feels like you're being stung over and over and over the same spot. It DOES hurt and it does take a couple of days to heal depending on where you get it and how big. The one on my lower back is pretty big and it bled ink for a couple of days. My back was really sore for like a week but after that it was fine. The other ones felt perfectly fine after they were done. I have to warn you that they are addictive though. I'm not sure why but once you get one it's hard not to get another.
i got one of a unicorn last year on my back.it hurt so much but it was wothe it in the end cos it was realy beautiful.so if your looking to get a tattoo i say go for it.
for my 1st tattoo i had a big angel on the right side of my back it took 1hr and half. it KILLED. but i stuck with it even though i just wanted to stop half way though. i knew if i did i wouldnt go back to have it finished cus the pain was so so bad. but after all that it looks fab and i love it. but i would never have another. eveyone takes the pain differentley.

good luck.
make sure its what u really want its there for life. look about in different tattoo shops, ask about whats the best one.
I have tattoos on both of my upper arms. It's like being rapid-fire pricked by a sewing machine (if the artist is using a needle gun). Yeah he uses novocaine cream to dull the pain but it still stings..after that. it will swell for a week (make sure you're not prone to keloids).

If you're committed to get a tattoo.just ignore or shut out the pain. Learn to live with the pain..it's a rite of passage.

Good Luck.
