Why are we all so obsessed about our looks? is the majority of people just very insecure?

(and I include myself here)

Answers:
i blame the media! i am obsessed with my looks and size but women are constanly being bombarded with these images. you cannot get away from. every time you buy a magazine everytime you buy a newspaper every time you turn on the telly, watch a movie or even go clothes shopping.
maybe if we all live in the mountins we will feel better about ourselvs!!
i like to hump everybody.. looks don't matter..now let me hump you!
Perhaps it's the whole thing about being attractive as well as health reasons etc etc. The media also has a lot to do with it saying that thin is beautiful.
i dont think it about being insecure. its the world we live in where no one is skinny enough or pretty enough. its very sad how tv and magazines can make someone feel bad about themselves.
i would just say be happy with who you are and embrace that. it might sound corny but if you are just happy with you then other people will notice it.

hope that helps.
and very self-centered but you lose alot of that with age
it's human nature u always want somethin u cant have or to be more like someone else, or have something someone else has.
wow that's alot of someones and somethings the mountains aint the answer i spent a month in the polish mountains of Jugow in july and I really missed seeing attractive ppl.
you'll here this a million times no one is perfect u just have to work with wot u got, for me personally i'm a gym member cant change the face but can sculpt a sxy bod..
yes, me incuded! i would give you a list of what i would change about my appearance but i don't have all day!
I think age plays a role with regard to looks. When people reach their twenties and thirties they tend to find an acceptable level of beauty in themselves. Of course there is alwayss the extreme exception but at least for myself being healthy is way of living and looking good depends on where I am going. My fellow workers alway kid me about the food I eat. What they don't know is that heart disease runs in our family and the diet I have been on for the past decade or two has kept me at the same weight, the same pants size[ for twenty eight years] and has even affected my hair because of all of the whole grains. Diet control doesn't mean much if you don't sleep. I don't think that it is about people being insecure, because if that were the case obesity wouldn't be a problem in this country. It may be about being successful. Good looking people are more successful. Good looking guys get the hot chicks and good looking females have their pick. I really believe in finding a place of normalcy in our lives. To say that you are happy with yourself is a wonderful thing and perhaps in America people think in terms of monetary gain instead of health. Being wealthy doesn't do too much for you if your health is pathetic.
