Why do looks matter?

statistics show the better looking you are, the more likely you are to get a promotion.
no one wants to shag a moose.
ugly people get bullied and ridiculed.
to me they matter so that i feel confident.

because everyone wants to have a good looking person on their arm, or feel that they look good, to be "better" or "accepted". how many famous people are attractive and untalented? 50% of them? And they are in the news just because they look good. Looks are important, but they shouldn't be SO important.
If you mean in a relationship, it's because you have to be physically attracted to a person to complete the picture.
it takes 3 seconds to decide whether you like a person or not, you have to like the person by appearance first. Noone personality can be so amazing you can just fall in love. it is looks that appeal to you.
You can see people before you get to know them. If you don't like the way they look then you wont want to get to know them.
To me looks do not matter,
The world today is all dependant on looks no one realy looks at the person on the inside its all external and matarial,
but to fine somebody who means the world to you and you mean the world to them well i think you need to look deeper than whats on the surface

One of the learning channels had a program about studies done observing men and women to determine what factors they take into consideration when choosing a mate. The majority of people choose someone with even features and a well balanced body. Some was due to learned behavior, but scientists found it seems to be mostly instinctive. It makes sense because good physical health and balance goes hand in hand with survival of the species.
Looks matter because it is the first thing that you see when you meet a person. But on the other hand no matter how good looking a person is, if they have no personality no one will stay interested for very long. for example, what man does not drool when he looks at Halle Barry? Yet TWO men have cheated on her.I rest my case
because of the judgemental world in which we live.
Appearance is what gives someone a first impression of you, even before you open your mouth (unless you already met over the phone or online). First impressions are the most lasting impression.
It all harks back to our caveman past, we are programmed to go for good looking people because good looks, clear skin and hair all suggest that the person is healthy and we all want to breed with a healthy partner to produce healthy, attractive children.
Looking around me its obvious some people dont follow their instincts.
Because society appears to believe this. Fortunately I am of the minority that believes personality should outshine looks. There are other factors which (in my opinion) overules looks such as honesty, loyalty, trust, good sense of humour, clean heart, etc as without these elements, you would be a person who looks good but is shallow and ugly within.no thank you.
