Why do sunglasses make people look more attractive?

I have a theory about this. Good-looking people apparently possess a higher degree of symmetry in their faces compared to their less good-looking contemporaries. Sunglasses increase the level of symmetry in a face by concealing the assymetrical features around the eyes, and therefore the perceived attractiveness is increased. Any views?

Answers:
perhaps because you CAN"T see their face..
nope
you cant see all the downfalls, cuz they are hiding your face!
because u canny see their cross eyes!! lmao! hen :-)
Yes, your 'theory' is obviously correct!
hides their eyes and makes them look more mysterious
because the glasses hide their face
I have a pair of Ray Bands.. £120, I think they make my face look silly
Hmmm, that's an interesting theory. Perhaps there's a bit of truth to it since according to psychology, symmetry plays a large role in physical attractiveness.
any views. ha good joke
To me, they make some people look as if they're trying too hard. Even if they are attractive underneath, I feel like they think they're a celebrity or something. It's kind of embarassing, actually.
I think it also because it adds a bit mystery about a person.

A peice of the jigsaw is missing and you cannot read the other persons emotions because of it,
to be honest with you I don't think they make people look all that much better
eyes are a beautiful part of the face!
Putting a coloured ring around one leg of a zebra finch makes it more attractive to the opposite sex. That's not symetrical.
Eyes are the windows of the soul. Concealed behind shades people can stare as long as they dare.
Dunno..does it help me?
Well almost anything that covers a face that is considered ugly makes the person better.

However I'd rather see someones eyes, since eyes are the most beautiful part on a person.
I think that's brilliant!
They hide the wrinkles around the eyes. Hide much of the face in fact. Sunglasses imply holidays, sun and fun and so create a positive image for the beholder.
i heard that people who wear sunglasses look more attractive because of the mystery value of not being about to see all of their face. what i mean is, when you talk to someone you just meet with a pair of sunglasses on and later when you see them without can you really be sure who they are?
so you cant see how ugly they are
Sparky,

I think it makes people look shifty, hmmmm i don't trust em when i can't see their eyes. I think that's why the Internet isn't the best place to make friends. I know the symmetry thing is true and that Keano reeves is a babe in that film with the people with plugs in their heads (name escapes me) and there is a possibility that like goths the sun glass people are trying to conceal something. ohhhhhhhhhhhhh like Beardy men!!!! never trust someone hiding behind a bog off beard.. there i have spoken. He he hope it helps.
hides their imperfections, like:
bloodshot eyes
wrinkles
Well, I was going to answer this question with that same rationale you posited and you answered better than me.I'd just add that the symmetrical features of the shades are imparted to the wearer and also add to the perceived symmetry.
Blacking your eyes out really helps to disguise your looks apparently so lets just go there !
sunglasses hide the wrinkles around the eye. Giving a more neutral look.
i think it depends on the sunglasses.
They hide a lot of your face.
Nope they hide the nasty piggy little eyes, or evil eyes
I don't like sunglasses. I like to be able to see a person's eyes
for me.there are 3 reasons why they wear sunglasses 1. is to protect there eyes from the sun 2. because they dont want any to see there eybags3. they hate dust.thats all
