Should MAKE-UP be BANNED as it promotes the oppression of women by creating an unobtainable idea of beauty..?

And saying that looks are the only thing that matter.

Doesn't it paint a false picture?

Answers:
How would you like to be told what you can do and what is forbidden?
Totally nonsensical question.
How old are you?
I like good make-up, and without it my skin gets unmanageable, I DO Not feel oppressed.
Be practical
Somehow.

maybe
Most women wear makeup because THEY like it, not because they want someone else to like it.
Maybe you're just too self-conscious.
what a load of rubbish
I agree with the above. In a way, it's a self-inflicted oppression. But most of us want to improve our appearance if we can, men or women. It's human nature.
women don't wear makeup for men.they wear it to impress other women. If you ask most men we could care less if you wear makeup or not.
Is it make up that does that or the men and women that want to make money from selling that **** and promoting unobtainable ideas? I wouldn't wear it myself but like to think people should have choices. All the information we could ever want need to be able to make an informed decision is out here now. If people choose not to make informed choiced it's their choice! And yeah, make up in itself does create a false picture on peoples faces but clothes on our bodies create false pictures too, and i aint into banning clothes either :-)
Well with that logic why don't we ban clothes because they create an unobtainable idea of fashion? Plus everybody would be nekkid, and I'd enjoy that until I passed the old folks home.

Most of the time women can use makeup to oppress men! Get your facts straight.
try to sell that idea to the women. Women make just as much make up products as men do. In order for make up to be banned, all the women have to agree on it. Also you'd be taking away the liberties of self expression.

Women have an insecurity that needs to be overcome. Once this insecurity has been overcome, then you'll be closer to progress. You should know what I am talking about
I don't think so. It gives us a chance to put our best foot forward and look our personal best. I would much prefer to hide the imperfections on my face than have them sticking out for the whole world to see. No, looks aren't the only thing that matters, but if you don't take care of yourself you are telling the world that you have low self esteem.
Not every woman chooses to wear make-up and there are much worse cases of oppression against women happening that are slightly more serious than anything the cosmetics industry could come up with.Any person that actually believes looks are most important isn't worth bothering about.
Make-up itself is harmless. If women feel the need to wear it to make themselves beautiful, then so be it. However, instead of blaming the products, perhaps blaming the advertising would be more advisable. It's the adverts that show all these 'perfect' women, and encourage women to hate their looks, when really it's true that 'beauty is in the eye of the beholder'. If you look at the answers to other questions, you'll see that everyone has a different view on beautiful.
I dont debate with a women's Liber. It's instinctive for women to want to attract men. sking women to dump make up is asking them to fight their instinct.
No way. I dont believe it creates a unobtainable idea of beauty & definately does not oppress in any way. Make-up can enhance what is already there or maybe give the wearer more confidence? Its about choice..everyone has one!
Sure. In theory make-up promotes a false picture of the beauty that women should attempt to obtain. In theory communism sounds really, really good. And in theory, the president shouldn't be a douchebag. In reality though, make-up is a VERY good thing.
I'll say it should be.
Years ago I woke up with a lady who had been wearing so much makeup, the pillow resembled a perverse version of the Turin Shroud. Took me three wash's to get that muck out.
Banned? Like arrest people for using or promoting it? Give people tickets and fines, even throw them into prison over it? That sounds awfully extreme. How about we just promote awareness?

If you FEEL LIKE wearing makeup, it's kind of like if you feel like wearing a hat -- fine, wear it. But I don't think women should be REQUIRED to wear make up unless the men and children are required to wear it too, like film and stage performers for instance.
no. makesup has been used since elizabethan times, over 100 years ago. society degrades women
nope dont ban the stuff it definitely helps especially after a mad night out and you look like hell the next morning!
Go back to the '70's. My girlfriend wears makeup because SHE likes it. Promotes oppression? Unobtainable idea of beauty? Sounds like you have some real self asteam issues. What do you think the fitness craze among men is all about? If it wasn't for desire to look our best for you, we wouldn't be spending nearly what we do on gyms. Sounds like it goes both ways. My girlfriend try to look and feel our best for ourselves AND eachother.
Yes, yes, yes! Make up is war paint, we use it to hide our true faces. I want it banned, not because I don't like playing with it, but because we are judged for not wearing it! We're not groomed if we don't spend 20 minutes a day slathering on foundation, eye shadows, lipstick etc etc.
I look at my beautiful daughter and her hideous panda eyes from mascara and could weep. She thinks she looks cool.
Saying that, when my younger daughter turns 16, Our society is based on image. We're no different from the Romans who put squished earthworms on their face or the Elizabethans and Victorians who put arsenic on theirs. Well, do you know what it is that tube of make up? My handcream says "urea".
are you Taliban
Most women look better without makeup. It's pretty sad.too many women put on makeup to look like a different person. I don't think it should be banned but I think women should realize that they are more beautiful before they put it on.
no it should not be banned.
make up is supposed 2 highlight your looks not make a whole new look!

if women want 2 wear makeup absolutely fine!
it can give them an air of confidence if she has a little bit on.
ii dont think makeup is a bad thing, however, when i think about all the perfect beautiful girls in mags. this is obtainable beauty. In that it is totally unreal!!

makeup will never be banned.
never!!
no it covers blemishs and scars that otherwise could make people unconfident and have low self esteem. its a choice just like some people wear designer labels instead of ordinary ones to feel good and more confident about themselves. if it makes people feel better what harm is it
How does it promote the oppression of women? Think your argument is flawed. ultimately it is a woman's choice. I prefer women without make up but than if someone wants to accentuate their features to make themselves feel better that is their prerogative.

Certainly woman that don't wear make up are not oppressed.
Make up has been used by women (and men for that matter) for many thousands of years, the ancient egyptians used it. Perhaps you should campaign for men to use it as well.
Make up should not be banned
But women with make up should be banned from walking in the rain and later meeting thier kids,
Many little kids have died of fright on seeing thier Mommies without makeup

well if it was banned we could get ready quicker on a night out!!
