I love 4ins' you cant go wrong with a nice pair of pointy stilletoes and that would make you a perfectly nice 5ft8 not that there is anything wrong with being 5ft4 !!!!
4 - 5 inches are the norm i think. thats what i wear anyway - good for you im only 5ft! but being petite does have its advantages :D
Taller the better. Boots will make your legs look longer too. Invest in a nice pair of knee high leather boots with a 3-4 inch heel and you'll be set.

id say 4 inch also dont wear stiletos they are ugly and boots are a go
