Does wearing black really make you look slimmer?
Answers:
Depends on the garment's style, fabric and if it compliments your natural hair, eye and skin coloring.
sometimes.
Yes ,
yea in the dark
yeah it does it creates a silhouette, but it also depends on the shape of the clothes and whether they accentuate your best bits and hide your worst bits.
I really doubt it! Vertical stripes make you look taller though!
no i wudnt say it mkes u slimmer cz i am quite a slim girl and black mkes me look fatter, like pregnant sort ov look,
yes!
It's a fallacy. If you are 'large' there's not a lot you can do to appear slimmer. Loose clothing is really a give away. If you are happy with your size, dress to suit yourself. Colour, style, cost.
yes, black makes you look slimmer. And it also makes you look sharp.
yeah it does! its weird but true! hides lots of things, i guess cause it blends.
that it does.
you betcha!!
yes, but the cutting makes a difference too
only sometimes but other times it makes you look goth
yes..
Many of my friends say that, but I don't know wheather it's true or not
yeah it creates the illusion of skinniness.
In a way. It makes you look more streamlined, slinkier and shows a silhouette simply because it is so dark compared to most other things you will be near. Depending on the shape of the garments, this can give the optical illusion that you are slimmer. This is why I wear it all the time!
yes
I don't think it's the actual color that makes you look slimmer, i think there is just more clothing styles in black that make you look slimmer.
It is all a matter of perception - what the eye sees and the brain registers. This occurs because light is reflected more from light coloured items than from dark or black coloured items. Also the limits of a dark object tend to look more defined than the limits of a light-coloured object. You could call it an optical illusion - if you place 2 identical persons side by side, one wearing white and the other wearing black, the person wearing black will 'appear' to look slimmer.
However, you should really wear whatever colour clothing you feel comfortable with - not how you wish to appear to others. Personally, I do not concern myself about how other people may think, I don't believe in being a conformist to other people's views - I just like to be myself, wear what I feel comfortable with, that is why I am me and not 'like anyone (or everyone) else'.
From the front, black definitly makes your waist and stomach appear to be slimmer. On the other hand, from the side, it doesn't help a bit. The reason why it works from the front is because black is the darkest color, therefore it hides the shadow from your stomach. But from the sides, you can see the stomach still bulging no matter what color you wear. Good question.
I watch What Not to Wear and they always say that black doesn't make you look thiner. It's the cut and style of the garmet that makes the difference.
yes, to an extent but it won't make you look slimmer if you wear it so tight that you can't pinch the clothing without pinching your skin (I've seen some people wear clothes like that, and it makes them look even larger)
Sometimes and for some people. I swear straight black pretty much every day and people say I actually look thinner on the off occasion that I do wear colors.
unless youre REALLY fat
