Headhunted!?

Was called out of the blue by an advertising company, and asked if I would be interested in coming in for a chat in regards to a position they thought I would be perfect for.

Recieved a message on my voice mail the night before the meeting to be told not to bother coming in as they had already filled the position.

As you can imagine, I am SLIGHTLY pee'd off.

I was under the impression that it was common Courtesy to interview all applicants before making a dicision, beside's the fact that they came to me in the first instance!

Am I being over sensitive? Do you think I should contact the company and share my feelings?

Answers:
Oh my god I'd be livid! How dare they phone you and get you to raise your hopes and plan for the interview, only to drop you like a ton of bricks without even seeing you! And like you say, they contacted you.it's not like you contacted them asking what positions were available! If it were me I would DEFINITELY write a letter of complaint. What does it matter, you wouldn't want to work for them now anyway! They should realise they can't build people's hopes only to take them away again. Bastards. Get writing now! What have you got to lose, get it off your chest you'll feel better. Good luck x
I would equally feel annoyed that they decided last minute to pick someone for the job. It was very underhand of them to do that and lead you up the garden path.

I dont blame you for feeling peed off about it you are well within your rights to do so.
Nope, not over sensitive at all! It shows complete ignorance on the part of the company not to mention incredibly unprofessional! Keep a mental note of their name and if they ever ring you again or you hear their name bandied about you can say 'no they're incredibly unproffessional' and get a touch of revenge!
Contact them! It was unprofessional!
As you should know by know, recruiters are a bunch of worthless liars who would sell their own grandmothers down the river for a quick buck. You shouldn't take it personally - they treat everyone with the same amount of disrespect.

However, this one sounds a little fishy - as you said they approached you first, and offered the job before even meeting with you. Are you sure it wasn't a set-up from your own company, to see if you were loyal or not?

Either way, remember who it was for future jobs, and tell them where to go if they show some interest in the future!
dont bother, just be grateful you're not working for them as they are obviously a**eholes.
Don't take it personally. Headhunters are ruthless. They don't really follow the rules because they get paid by the placement not by how nice they are. They won't care what you say to them.in fact they might not contact you if they think you are dissing them. Don't burn your bridges.move on - they have
You're entitled to feel a bit put out but don't burn any bridges. You never know what vacancies they might have in the future. Call or email to say that you were disappointed not to have been interviewed but that you hope they will consider you for further positions.
I was headhunted, and turned it down even though it was about £10K more than I was on. I then took a £3K pay cut - oh I wish I'd taken the job!

Yes do phone them ask them for a meeting, go in and explain. Indicate that you are pis*ed off without actually saying it, but don't be too abusive as they might have a position for you later.
Forget it and move on with life. Headhunters and recruitment agencies aren't bothered with courtesy. All they care about is getting as much commission as possible for as little expenditure as possible.

You'll just be wasting your breath by complaining.

I'm not saying thats how it should - but thats how it is!
I work in recruitment and unfortunately it happens often. Companies make a decision before interviewing all candidates. They aren't supposed to do it but they do. They probably found somebody who had everything they were looking for and who wasn't asking for very much money - that's what usually makes them snap people up quickly! I wouldn't advise you contact the company to share your feelings. this would be pointless and would certainly mean they wouldn't be contacting you again if any other positions came up.
