Which tricks do you know to make your application better?

Answers:
Well laid out application
Use the "Any other Comments" section wisely. A witty first line to catch their eye and remember you by.
Admit to a weakness but say you are willing to learn.
Honesty throughout.
what sort of application?
just tell them what they want to hear you can lie up to a certain extent but don't push your luck. like i mean if your going somewhere were you need to use computers tell them that you have high i.t skills thing like that
tweek your wording so you sound better but not actually changing reality.
Correct spelling, grammar and punctuation would put you ahead, which includes a capital letter at the start of a sentence.

Re. the 'stretching the truth' advice, it's not a good idea.
I once watched someone make a change to a computer program. On my CV, under 'Experience', I put 'Computer Programming'. At my next job interview, the interviewer said "Good, we need someone to design a program for us to ..(something or other). Could you do that for us?" Er, no. Sorry.

And m p in Barry's answer means Member of Parliament, I presume. He must mean that if you offer to do work experience for them for nothing, they'll take advantage and you'll be stuck on no pay forever. At least, I hope that's what he means.

Good luck!
job applications are a 2 part process. the first is getting through the door, the 2nd is the interview. cant do a lot about the interview to improve it, although you can mess it up by being late, untidy etc.

applying in the 1st place is where you can make great inroads. start with your CV. make sure it say your name at the top, not the words curriculum vitae, we all know its a CV we dont need telling.

make sure any gaps in your employment history are explained, or cloud the dates by only putting years so their doesnt appear to be any gaps, its not lying, its presentation.

Dont lie, but present yourself in the best light possible. You did not just run a department but were responsible for work planning, training new emploees, staff rotas. need i go on.

have more than 1 CV, you need to emphasise different experiances for different jobs.

send the CV in a stiff backed A4 envelope. it will cost you more but has the advantage that
a - your CV isnt all creased and
b - a lot of people will open it first to get rid of this big thing on their desk.

Include a covering letter and make reference to your experiance "as you can see from the enclosed CV I am a nobel prize winner." Also include a phone number "if you would like to discuss any of this further please do not hesitate to contact me on.". I also put that I am available for interview at short notice as it makes them think "oh ive got a gap tomorrow"

if they send you an application form, put "please see attached CV" in all the spaces about employment history and enclose a copy anyway.
Tell them that your so keen on the job that you will work for no pay for a couple weeks in order to prove yourself, it allways impresses, but they wont let you work for nothing. Dont try this if you are applying for a job with an m.p.
