I want to start my own business? where do i start?

Leaving the armed forces, and i want to start my own business. Not sure what sort. But i dont know where to begin.

Answers:
I started my own businessabout six weeks ago. It's a transcribing business and probably of no use to you whatsoever but the best thing you can do is to get in touch with the Inland Revenue's Help for Newly Self Employed people and they will send you out a starter pack.

Speaking from experience, the best ever thing I did was to start up my own business. I still work full-time but work on my own business on an evenings and weekends.

Maybe it would be an idea to gain employment first after you leave the forces to ensure guaranteed income prior to actually taking the step.

Best of luck.
depends what is your business idea?
Figure out what you like to do (something that you would do for free) and the rest will fall in place
college or business school to get a better idea
Depends on what type of business your wanting to run.
Take the $100,000 you have. Go to the bank with an ideea & they'll lend you the rest.

First you need a business plan, decide what you want to go into bussiness for and get a degree that will help you with that bussiness. Clothing stores, and fashion stores are the hardest to get loans for, seasonal and landscaping and/or construction companies tend to go bankrupt quickly and are very hard to maintain. In the end it all depends on you.

Well you have to first figure out what your interest are. There are lots of non-profit orgnaizations that will help you with your business venture. These orgs help with everything from helping you create a business plan(which is very important) to matching your savings in "smart saver" type program. They are very helpful. My mom started her business like this.
If you EVER take on a partner PLEASE get contracts and have them signed!! it'll save a ton of heart ache later

BTDT.
The first step is to know what you want to do. The best business will depend on what you want, how you define to be interesting. A person may consider a pet sitting business to be the most exciting work in the world, while another person would rather watch TV than take care of dogs.

The key is to determine what your interests are, what you want to do, what is suitable for your lifestyle and your overall goals, and what can fit with your resources.

Paul, begin with asking yourself: For about 5 years, can I live in 1 room, make my own food, rarely eat out, make every nickel count, be OK with all my clothes coming from the Thrift Store, no expensive toys, vacations in the nearby park, can I tell the difference between what I want and what the business needs. Unless you have a lot of money saved up ( a lot ), this is how it will be.
