Equifax.. how to fleece the public?

I have a bad credit score with equifax.256 points (very poor) that it is because i only have one active account (mobile phone) and that for 1.5 years did not put myself on the electoral roll. I have never been in debt of more than £500 and do not normally need credit cards etc. I need one now for my wedding but my low score has meant that i cannot get one. I spoke to the most rude person in the world at Equifax who stated that there is nothing i can do but wait until the electoral roll increases to make up for the lost 1.5 years. can anyone help with advice?

Answers:
If you don't use credit cards or credit, that is the reason for your low credit score. Sometimes it is not a situation of "bad" credit, but no/little credit history.

You probably deal with a bank/credit union (savings/checking). This is the place you should go and apply for a loan. Credit Unions are usually better. You will end up paying a higher % than normal, but it will help build your credit history. Once this loan is paid, get a credit card and keep it current. Use it for little things and always pay it off. This will also build your credit. If you are getting married, you are going to need somewhere to live..even if you rent, some landlords check your credit history.
You have a right to see your credit report. Perhaps there are errors that you can dispute. If so, your credit rating can change. It is worth a try.

Congratulations on your upcoming nuptials.
if you contact your local council they should be able to add you to the electoral role.

there are some low credit credit cards that could get you started.
Have you got a ccj? if not, you should find a credit card from somewhere. Or maybe, its a good thing you can't get one because they do charge high interest on money you spend.

You could try the alternative of getting a bank loan. low interest rates, and you will know exactly where you stand.
