Find some paperwork that proves the tax office have sent you a cheque, or ask the tax office to provide some proof
dont answer the door they are not allowed to force entry.
When you get the cheque put it in the bank straight away, It usually takes 5 working days to clear or you can express clear it (Banks charge extra for this but it will be worth the small fee) then go back to the bank and take it out in cash ( Balliffs won't take a cheque ) hope this helps.
They will say anything to scare you, to let them in so don't answer the door. They cannot force entry into your property but they can enter if a door or window is open or if you open a door to them. Sometimes they will try and scare you with the police but the police wont get involved in this. They will just have to wait until you have the money to give them. Try not to worry to much as many people have been in your situation and the bailiff's like to use scare tactics on people as they are usually on commission. C.A.B. will offer advice about it all if your still worried.
sure theyre really going to come? i get letters all the time saying that collection agencies are sending someone round on a certain date between certain times, they never appear though. just dont answer the door. they will use scare tactics. i think you oly have to answer the door if they have some sort of warrent to force entry, which takes a while. but if you make an offer of say £7 a month to the creditor in question they shouldnt send them around anyway and if it goes to court they will have to accept your offer.
you need to start tackling your debts, this might give you some sensible ideas

You don't have to let them in unless they have a warrant.
Make sure there are no doors or windows open though as they could enter through them and would then have the right to enter your property at any time in the future
