how did you start ur business??? i want to start my own and i relaly need a few tips on advertising, mine is a tree service and no im not in the uk,,,,,,,,,,,i have limited funds plz help

It's very personal and it depends on how you define a good career or business. First, set a goal for what? do you want in life. Plan what you will do to reach your goal.

I'm 41 now, work from home in shorts and T-shirts and sometimes topless. I set my target as low as to make 1 dollar/page/day. I strive to create a new page for my websites everyday but I have all the freedom I need and making money 24/7 on the internet with Google Adsense and some affiliate programs. The only thing that tie me down is 'how much income I want or need'. Because the more websites and traffic I have will determine how much income I can much.
Anyone who can create websites or blogs to provide lots of good information can make money from Google Adsense. Blogger.com and Google pages lets you create blogs for free and allows you to make money too.
You can make money by joining me or Google as a publisher and publishing Google Adsense on your websites. If someone clicks on those ads, you will earn money.

if your lookinng for a cheap way to advertise, print up a filer on your computer, bring it to staples, have them make copies for you and drive around and put them in peoples mailboxes, hang it on the wall in a grocery store.
Near my home I have this advertising printing company, they specialize in magnets, and window clings/stickers. I got two magnets for $100.00 to put on my car. There are also several online sites, that you can get the window sticker/cling things for fairly cheap. Sorry I don't have the site handy, I'm on my laptop and dont' have the site on here.
but those are two fairly cheap ideas for constant advertising that someone see's everytime you take your vehicle out and about.

If you have a free paper in your area (doesnt' cost to get it) try taking an ad out in there, as they are usually cheaper than doing it in the newspaper.

Advertising is the key but before that make your business known to all of your friends and ask that they tell their work friends etc. Get business cards printed with your name, business name, what you do and your telephone number. Nothing more, no e mail, no address and no mobile number.
Advertise in a local directory and if you have them where you live , in a local shop window.
Have very cheap flyers printed outlining your business and deliver them in a neighbourhood but only to those properties that look as if they could do with your services.
Make sure your spelling on your advertising is correct. Follow up any enquiry within 24 hours and follow up with a written quotation or estimate within another 48 hours. Wait 7 days then follow up the quotation with a telephone call. Be reliable at all stages of your contact with the customer. Get your money for the work on the day of completion having made this clear in your quotation.
I did all of these things and had a very good business from just 4 weeks of inauguration. In 12 years I only had 1 bad debt and did not have a free week except for my holidays, 1 week every 6 weeks, and 3 weeks in December to January.

a tree feller, must be irish, my advice is get free advertising, do this by contacting newspapers tell them your story , they are always looking for copy, be excellent at what you do or are offering, word of mouth is the best advertising you can have, you have access to a pc, run off flyers, advertising your services, the area you are working in push through the letterboxes, if you have a free newspaper get them to take your flyers pay the shop to get the delivery boys to push em through whilst delivering the paper , wont cost a lot. before opening one's business ,i advise taking some courses in preparation for your business, junior colleges and night school offer business math, bookeeping and other business course that you will need to operate the business..then save up while you are learning and then you will be ready..
