Default on credit file?

Hi all,
I have a default registered on my credit file,because..apparently i owe a certain telephone company £30 for final disconnection when i moved house 3 years ago!!!
Only just found this out.
Not 100% but i am sure that i cancelled my phone line without owing anything.
Finding it hard now to be accepted for credit.
PLEASE HELP! What can i do?

Just settled the amount and noted the reason , date and time. U may need this information when u apply a loan somewhere. They will accept your explanation. It only 30 pounds.
Im in the USA but I would suggest you pay the bill and then write the credit reporting agencies with a copy of the credit report showing the dunn and a copy of the payment you made to the company, and ask the credit reporting agency to now remove that from your record. Give it a few months and then check your credit report to see that the dun has been removed.
I assume you are in the UK. There are three main credit reference companies in the UK and they hold all the details about your credit history. The main one, and the one most worth contacting, is Experian. You should be able to find them on the web. Get in touch with them and get a copy of your credit history. If there is something on there that is incorrect and you contest it successfully then you can get your details amended.
dispute it with the credit bureaus
Get details from the credit reference agency of the default and contact the company. Get them to prove to you that you owe the money. If you do, pay it and wait for it to clear from your record over time. If not, insist they correct your record.
