Does working in a bar pay good wages, its something i wanna do but i am used to earning over £8 per hour?
Answers:
generally they pay minimum wage in the UK and you need to be a good bar person to make good tips to top up your wage, i think you would be better off owning the bar
You would be lucky to get £8 an hour as bar manager in Britain! It's minimum wage I'm afraid unless you are the bar/cellar man. You get more then because you have a lot of responsibility but it's still not that much more.
bar wages aren't good getting tips boosts the rate, have you thought of becoming the landlord of a rented or tied public house, just think of all the late nights and although some do accept children its not the ideal life for them, some times some take to the life and at others it never takes off
I find working bars has it's financial rewards, you can meet interesting people, not to mention they are usually kept darker than most other businesses, so the illusion of youth can also help in the people meeting depertment. But no matter where you are prostition is illegal so don't ever get caught lying down on the job. It not only gives you a late start in the running department, it doesn't bode well on your reseme for yet another carrer change. Stick with the hourly pay. Working bars, if your lucky you get paid by the minute and sooner or later the darkness will even betray you, and at last call it will be revealed your true age and business will plumet. And the bigger problem is there is always a bleached blonde who will have more seniority than yourself, and this side of death you will never sit on her special stool. Have you thought of becoming a bartender? I've taken this to be a much more rewarding move, not to mention the legal standpoint. The money I'm sure isn't to bad either. Good luck. Either way, count on sore feet, lifelong back problems, and building a reputation for bad taste in clothes, wearing either not nearly enough or way to much make-up, and a reputation for salty language and a large turn over in gentlemen friends. You can count on being invited to each and every party thought up by surrounding establishments, and becoming a pro at jumping from cakes to windows dodging flashing lights and death threats from almost every female that will have the knowledge of the wearabouts of the man in both of your lives.
So get used to not earning 8 pound an hour and enjoy it.Having said that i once had a barman work for me and he earned more in tips than in wages, can you be that good.
