When you are working on someone's roof ask them if you can put a sign in their front yard so others in the neighborhood will see it.
speak to insurance agents as well as realtors along with the other things that people have said here.

Newspaper ad. Here in the states we have swap sheets or trade papers. They are kinda like newspapers but instead of news and articles they have ads for buisness', yard sales, real estate etc. and also trade workers looking for jobs. Or you can ask someone who's roof you do if you can leave an advirtisment in their yard (you may offer small discount for them letting you do that) or have a sign put on your car or car window.
Also, I like the shout from the roof top idea :)
Organise a rooftop protest and make sure it fails because you've secured the slates well and they can't pull them off and throw them at the crowd.
Send letters to builders in the industry in which you work. Also, send them to architects as well.

Come to my house. Replace the rolled roof on my addition that is leaking and then I will tell everyone and their friends about the great job you did and how you didn't charge me because you wanted to get the word out.

Check out long range weather forecasts, and drop flyers warning of imminent winds. Do something different to your work van so people remember it, drive a classic van like a Morris Minor. Good and fast enough for London traffic.Make friends with a reclamation yard, they will know who is having a roof done, often in reclaimed tiles.Roofs can be sexy.
