I don't know how old you are but why not just call a local mortgage broker and tell them you are looking into buying a house and want to see if you qualify and what for?
Once you take the app, you are entitled to a copy of your credit report so just ask them for it and tell them you are going to start shopping for a house.
THE CREDIT REPORTS FROM THE "FREE" SITES ARE NOT CURRENT AND ARE VERY VERY DISSUADING! I have people try and tell me all the time that "the credit report I have says I'm a 700 score". when in actuality they are much less becuase the information on thier report is OLD.
Trust me, go to a mortgage broker and ask them. They will be glad to help you out if you tell them you are looking for a house.
btw. David K gets his info from actually reviewing many "free" credit reports and comparing them to the credit reports that we pull from financial institutions. These "free" credit reports are mearly marketing engines for companies to find out you are inquiring upon your credit report. Once you pull your credit, your information is sold to anyone that has a dime to pay for it. If you currently have certian parameters, such as high debt/high interest rates, companies will begin to market you in the hopes that you will buy thier product to improve your financial situation.
Again, NOTHING IN LIFE IS FREE. Let the mortgage broker pay the $12 dollars or so, be upfront with them if possible and let them know you are merely trying to get an idea of your options. You can opt out from being marketed, I forget the sight but do a search for "opting out credit" or somthing along those lines.

At annualcreditreport.com offers you a credit report once a year free of charge without having to sign-up for a fee.
Go to www. annualcredit report.com you are entitled to a free credit report on an annual basis from the three major credit agencies. It will ask you to create log in info so it verifies that its you. Stay away from www.freecreditreport.com- that web site promises the same thing and it looks very close to the real one but at the end they will ask you for credit card number to enroll in credit monitoring.
I don't know where David K gets his info, but he is way out in left field on this one.
First, applying for a loan does not automatically entitle you to a free credit report. Only if you are denied credit can they give you one. By law, you are entitled to view any negative information that caused a creditor to deny you credit. See the Fair Credit Reporting Act.
And information supplied by www.annualcreditreport.com is supplied directly from the 3 credit bureaus, and is as accurate and up-to-date as they can be. Unless he can supply me with some type of source to back his claim I would tend not to trust him.
The Fair Credit Reporting Act requires current credit reports, not aged reports. They do not supply these out of the goodness of their hearts, but by government mandate. If I find out they are not giving out current information I'll be the first in line to file a lawsuit on them.
