Inheritence tax?

Why should the government have 40% of a persons estate when they die in the form of Inheritence Tax when tax has already been paid on it in the first place?

Answers:
When you are dead, all the money in the world can not bring you back, so what are you worried about? Not having enough money to buy gifts for the angels?

Inheritance is charged at 40% on amounts exceeding 250K or thereabout. If the estate passes to the spouse, it is exempt from tax, just as if it goes to charity or is passed on at least seven years before death.

The reason for taxing estates is to restrict wealth from passing from generation to generation at the expense of maintaining a civilised and secure society.

I don't think the Govt. can be any fairer to the living.
cos they are robbing 'stards
Because it's like Income Tax and VAT..you pay both.
but you can get away with it by giving a percentage away each year until your total estate drops below the threshold, we did that, my father split his estate giving 50% to myself and the other 50 %to his daughter, that way neither of us has to pay this tax as our share will not exceed the amount of threshold that it becomes payable on, you can get a leaflet on nthis from the Inland revenue or the Customs&excise or even the Citizens advice bureau who are impartial
they shouldn't your right it disgusting but that's the British government for you set ov tossers
because they can.they are legalised gangsters..
Because Gordon Brown and co.are Tax Grabbing Bastards , and because theres nothing you can do about it , and so it goes on and on and on.
