Years ago, I used to work for the West Midlands Police in Recruitment. We did not mind taking questions from people asking what you are asking!

Just be yourself. You may have to give a urine sample, so make sure you are clean.

Look clean and presentable. They expect people to be nervous, so do not worry.
Just make sure that you can answer any questions on hobbies that you put on the form! No matter what job you are going for, always make sure you have some knowledge of your hobbies! If you put 'going to the cinema' make sure you have seen a film recently. Best was people who say they love to read - but they do not know any authors or the books they wrote. One said he liked horror books - but could not name any Stephen King books!

If you have done the aptitude tests, you are well on the way to joining - so have a safe and successful career!

Look them straight in the eye- direct contact is VERY important plus have a CLEAN record.. Remember their is a chain of command - be derential.
You do not have to say anything .

But it may harm your defence if you do not mention when questioned something which you later rely on in court. Anything you do say will be given in evidence.

Are you doing the assessments or a formal interview. I have experience of assessing both!!

If its the assessments they are looking for you to demonstrate your interpersonal skills, however first off read the notes your given before each one - make notes if you need to. Then remain calm. If you have someone who is making inappropriate comments - challenge them, but above all remain fair to all the parties involved.

If its for an interview, make sure you re-read your initial application forms, a lot of questions you may be asked will be around the evidence you put on those forms. Also be ready to evidence - confrontation, problem solving, dealing with difficult situation or doing something you didnt want to.

Above all - dont try to be someone your not!, a lot of people act out of their normal character and it shows. Relax, smile, good eye contact and if you dont understand a question - dont be ashamed to say so. If you need a couple of seconds to think about and answer take it.

Yes make sure you have the right qualifications.
You can join for quick advancement,
(short rout to make RANK of INSPECTOR)
If you have Diplomas, BA MA for instance.


You can also be what is classed as over quallified,
That is if you have a DAD you are over quallified
and will not make the grade
Now, this is where many miss it; you need to be healthy, fit because they are going to test you on this with some excercise. Don't mess up on this whatever you do.
Join the Freemasons.The force is rife with them.Guaranteed admission if you are a member.Its not what you know but who you know.
Apart from turning up on time, clean shaven, (males only). They are looking for maturity, and logical thinking. So bear that in mind when they are firing questions at you. Stay calm, think about your answer and you shouldnt go far wrong.
