Has anybody on here worked for asda?if so what was it like?what about shelf filling?

Answers:
My boyfriend did nights at Asda, shelf-filling canned veg. He said they don't treat the staff properly (not his manager or colleagues cos he got on super with them) but the actual company, they just want to make more money and don't really care about their staff enough, they make them work hard. But he enjoyed nights cos they had a lot of fun, throwing stuff at each other from ailse to ailse and everything. At the same time he didn't like nights cos it was too hard, and him and a lot of his friends from Asda got backache for a while at different times. Its hard work but if you're working with the right people it can be fun too. The uniform is ridiculous though.
I worked for Somerfields whilst I was a poor student, I loved it, great laugh and met some great mates!
My partner used to work for Asda, and really enjoyed it. He did pretty much everything, from stacking shelves to being in charge of the cleaning team. From what he has told me, they do a lot to encourage team spirit, and it seemed a very sociable place to work - he made some good friends there. However like most shop work it is not v well paid unless you are management. If you have been offered a job with them, I would take it. It doesn't have to be forever, and you could end up doing really well. It is always a good thing to have a stint in a customer based environment on your CV as well. I wish you lots of luck.
My son worked at asda, whilst he was a student. He loved it, moneys not bad and they're a great crowd. As expected shelf filling is physical work
I work night shift at Asda - shelf filling. It is hard work but you're kept busy all night so the time goes by quite quickly. Shelf filling is not the job for you if you're looking for job satisfaction and career fulfillment as it is pretty boring but you leave the job at the door and go home - simple stuff really!!
Asda as a company to work for has it's pros and cons. The benefits are quite good eg you get a 10% discount card once you have worked for 12 weeks, wide range of other discounts available for other companies and services. Cons - I feel sometimes that you are just a number rather than a valued employee - but I guess the same could be said about other workplaces. Better the devil you know!! If you start at Asda - enjoy!
i worked for sainsburys ten years ago.
it was jokes.pay was crap
shelf filing is best when the store is closed.
Yes I did shelf filling on the health and beauty dept at Asda when I was in school. Best job I ever had! Made loads of friends- everyone was so sociable (i think supermarkets in general are like that) and to be totally honest, no one ever noticed when I was skiving in the smoking room!
I worked for asda all through my hols fom uni, it was great!
Worked at ASDA for seven long years. The people are great, I've made many many friends through working there, and it was frankly the easiest job I've ever had.

Be warned that the Management are normaly tossers, and you will not get any support from them - unless you brown nose.

I very happily resigned from ASDA last year after seven years of team spirit and morale dropping significantly every year, and especially since the take over by Wal-Mart the company treat you like a piece of meat.

In short, if you want to toe the company line, it's agreat job, if you have your own opinions and disagree with people that are wrong - even if you treat them with respect whilst doing so - it's crap.
