Is it worth being a freelancer?

Answers:
I freelance, these are the pros:

1. You don't work 9-5 Mon-Fri

2. You're not bound by a contract of employment

3. The money is pretty good

4. You can sometimes knock off early (well, I can in my job)

5. You're not stuck in an environment with the same people all the time

6. You can meet new people (I do)

Cons:

1. When the work dries up it's depressing

2. If the work dries up, you're money dries up (combined with 1. above, this is doubly depressing)

3. Sometimes it seems it would be easier to be in a permanent job that has more security and stability

4. When the work and money dries up you're stuck at home on Yahoo Answers (can be considered to be a 'con' given the more constructive things one could do!)
Sure, if you can afford to make a living, save for retirement & get yourself some health insurance.

Good Luck!
well as a graphic designer who is employed full time-- i do freelance work for extra spending money. but be careful, the government loves to tax this stuff.
It depends on what you "freelance" in !! Often freelancers can make more money, but if it's a close call, then perhaps working for a company would be better in the long run as you would have full benefits, which you don't get freelancing. You do have more flexibility at times, but if you're busy, then you actually have less free time as you're the only person doing the job!
Its a trade off. Good money, but no benefits.
freelancer in what? whatever field it is, all that matters is that you get stuff published or booked. that way it'll be easier getting assignments in the future. but in the meantime I'd say keep a day job, you'll have a steady source of income that way.
yeah, you don't have to work for anyone and earn a decent wage
there is always the danger that work will go slack when you are used to the income
Depends on what you mean by worth? Financially, emotionally, or lifestyle?
Good luck
The word worth can be interpreted many ways
