I have come up with a pretty good idea for a bag.. it really isn't?
quite as simple as that but I don't want to expand too much upon the idea in case it is snapped up.. I have no idea how to proceed. I have no access to designers or materials or fabrics and really could not put the thing together myself..
The idea sort of came to me a few days ago.. any suggestions on how to market products/inventions as I have no idea whatsoever..

Thats a common problem! I now own a clothing company, but when I got started, I had all these ideas and no resources. My friends and I came up with a couple of concepts and took them to a company called cotton 3( cotton3.com). You produce a sketch, drawing, or idea and they will make you a prototype in about 2 weeks. Then when you have your prototype(bag) perfect they will put it into production. Depending on what materials you use, they will make your products in sri lanka, china, etc.. And they dont have minimum orders. I do everthing "in-house" now but they are a great start. Check them out. If you really believe in your idea, run with it. Anyone who has ever made any real money, took some kind of risk. Hope this is helpful.
I'd get in touch with a business advisor and ask them where to go. Draw out your idea in as many angles as possible (even 3D if you can), stick it in an envelope and post it to yourself. This gives you a date when you first committed the idea to paper. Then keep it in a safe place and DON'T open it. If someone then comes up with the same idea you may be able to take it to a judge who can then open it and verify the date you first put the idea down.
If you're based in Britain, talk to business link and they will be able to advise you on what you may be able to do. Also, do some research on the internet and find out who is in charge of the big stores and who's responsible for buying new stock. Get in touch with them and let them know you've got something they might be interested in.
Don't tell them the idea in full though! If need be, file that envelope with your design in, in a bank vault - I don't think it's that expensive.
And plug away at people. Eventually you will have to show your idea to someone, but remember all the people you've shown it to, write all of their names down and remember you've always got the security of that piece of paper safely date stamped and effectively patented.
