If I buy items that cost £263:96 and take away 12.5% of the total , how much is left over ?

I have no idea how to deduct 12.5% from £263:96 , how would I work it out ? Help please!

Answers:
(Working 1)
Convert 12.5 to a percentage 1/100 * 12.5 = 0.125
263.96 x 0.125 = £32.995 so about £33

Deduct Working 1 from the original sum:
263.96 (original)
- 33.00 (w1)
= 230.96 (remaining)

Alternatively 100% - 12.5% = 87.5%
Convert to a percentage 0.875 (87.5/100)
Multiply by the original amount

263.96 x 0.875 = 230.965
£230.97 rounded up (depends on where you round)
£230.96.5
263.96 * 100 X 87.5 = 230.96.5
263.96
-26.40
-2.64
-2.64
-1.32
Equals.
£230.96 and a ha'penny
Ever heard of a calculator! £263.96 - 12½% = £230.96, simple.
Looks to me like someone else is trying to take the easy way out and cheating on their homework! I'm sorry, I don't know.
£230.97
(263.96/100)x87.5
=230.965
and round up the half penny
$230.96
