Are stamps legal tender in the UK?

I was told once stamps can be used as legal tender to the sum of £1 only and nothing above.

They can be traded the same as anything else however, it is up to the seller and if they wish to accept them
Ahhh no i don't think so.you can put stamps on letters to post, unless your talking about food stamps which some people get, these can be used in shops..like vouchers
