Would it be worth while working full time?
i'm a single parent of a 5 year old and working during school hours and on a low income. I am cliaming all the benefits i should and want to know if it is worth while going full time?
benefits seem to give you money in one hand and take it away from the other. and sometimes feels like would be better off not working at all but dont want to do that!
If i was to go full time in the job i'm in at the moment i could earn 16000!
Would it be worth while going full time at this salary or look for something better paid? Would i be financially better off or crippled for helping myself?
Answers:
It might not be worth it, even if you make more money. If you work full time and youre single then the kid won't spend any time with you. You will be the most important person in the kids life! You have to stay with him!
Although looking for a better job might work.
You could work part-time as a waitress and make more than $16K
it depends on where u live, does that amount of money meet all your needs? anything left over? room for growth with company? all theses things have to be considered before quitting school
I think you are the only person who can answer this question.Everyones circumstances are different. 16K is a nice salary, compare that to your benefits. If you can avoid childminding fees etc. and can cope with the extra strain of full time work ,i would definitely go for the job.Whatever you decide, good luck.
Uf! sorry I can't answer your question. But If I were to be in your situation, knowing me I wouldn't work full time. You've gotta take care of yourself too you know? you might run yourself down or suffer from stress. I think you're very brave bringing a child up by yourself.
That is an awful salary for full time work! The money you would spend on daycare would probably negate the added wages of full time work anyway.
Have you thought about seeking an associates degree at a local community college? They have lots of classes available at convenient times so you could try to schedule things during school and live off of grants and loans. This could be a great investment for you and you would still have quality time with your child. Many states have added incentives for single mothers to go back to school. They know that the investment now saves them so much money later. My husband invested 36,000 in loans for an education (he got a few grants and scholarships) and made 60,000 the first year of work. Ten years later he has recently been offered a job at 102,000. That is about as good an investment as you can get.
You may not feel like you're a real student type, may have even not done well in high school but many people find that when they go back to school as adults they really do well.

Given that the starting salary is around £9.6K, your £16k is definetly good in terms of the money involved, and I definetly think you should go with it.
Consider this. Kids in school from 9, and you start at half 9. Kid has school lunch (despite whatever crap you may read, school meals are better quality than they used to be). Kid finishes at 3, and your home at 5. 2 hours less to see him, compared to more money to support his life.
Money savings can be made as well. I know people who, their kid goes to a friends after school to play. Social developmentand cheap childcare. 2 days less per week childcare. Grandma comes once a week takes a 3rd day. After school playing club is much cheaper than a childminder for the 4th, and the teenager down the street on the 5th. Minimal expense, but all days covered.
for £16k , its not worth it.ur better off spending time with ur kid..
and ull probably get better money from the benefits office.
try working only 16-18 hrs a week..claim ur tax credits.
