Has she applied to the council for low-cost housing? Do you know anyone with a van who can help? You may be able to hire one at a reasonable price if you can find someone to drive it. Why are her family not helping her? You could always make sure she has a cooked meal, make things that can be frozen.
You are obviously a very good friend, more people should be like you. Enrol the help of other friends. Have a boot sale and get them all to donate things. It's kindness like this that aids recovery
An added addition, to what you just said. Your friend has worked hard and paid taxes. She should use the benefits to help her get back on her feet. It's not about scrounging, but a genuine need. She deserves it!

I'm not sure there is a way to make "quick" money, but if she can work from home on the internet, perhaps she could try getting some work in data entry, or something similar. I'd try searching for "internet jobs" in google and see what comes up. You might get some ideas.
