What to write in a covering letter that accompanies a CV?

I am applying for a new job as an architectural technician, but need this new job to be flexible, as I am also at uni and would prefer to do the work outside office hours (evening and weekends) how do I write this in a covering letter without putting them off?

Answers:
Dont mention it, get the interview 1st then let them decide. When they are going through the aplications they are looking for reasons to eliminate you from an interview if they have many aplicants, so make the letter short and what they want to hear.
How about, "I don't want to put you off but.".
Monster.co.uk have a good hints and tips section on writing cover letters.
I am wanting to write some cover letters myself
and i am finding it hard
but my top tip is looking for samples on google
Don't put it in your cover letter. Get yourself an interview first. You could maybe mention that you would consider part time work.
How about putting in the cv the fact you are at uni and at this moment in time can only work outside office hours. That way you know they will see it when they read your cv and also the information of what you are doing at uni will be there for them to see. Good luck
Most jobs do require you to be ther at the times advertised and unless they say flexi time i think you are going to have a hard time. I think start off by saying why you want the job then move onto why you think you would suit the position and what experience you have then move on to what achievements you have made. eg, won medals in sport, run marathon, etc. At the end say that ideally you would be looking for flexi time as you are furthering your professional qualifications and this will be mutually beneficial. You can only hope that they are completely blown away by your CV and your smart talk in the letter that they will be ok with it. Good luck
If you write that you are studying at Uni then they can only see this a good thing as you are educating yourself. Just put that you really interested in the job but due to Uni commitments would it be possible to work outside office hours, point out you are free at weekends too as not many people are. If it doesnt matter to them when you work then i cant see them having a problem with it.
I receive a bundle of CVs most weeks so I prefer the brief but informative approach to the letter.

A bit of passion for the job certainly helps
At the end of the day if they don't want somebody who wants to come & go as they please then forget it! So phone them up & get a feel for what they expect first.
put it in your cv that the qualification you are studying is in view ie say you're studying Mechanical Engineering, then in your Academic History add B.Sc or B.Eng(whichever applies)In-view, and the expected year to finish also. this is the professional mode of informing your proposed employer, so that if you do well in the test/interview, they will be the one to ask your plan to combine school and work.best of luck

If your degree is based in this field I would suggest applying for a sandwich year in which you work as an Architectural Technician. This will put you in a brilliant position when you finish uni as you will have valuable working experience, which will appeal to most employers over graduates without this experience.
I hate being negative but I can't see anyone wanting to employ you outside of office hours when they are going to get applications from candidates who can work within usual times.
