Loan brokers are they a con?

my credit is bad and i wanted to get a loan through a broker is that a good idea

Answers:
They are a very mixed bag, unfortunately.

Beware of brokers who offer free advise - they are normally either on a huge kick back for selling you only one product, regardless of whether it is the right one for you or not, or they tie you into to insurance that is way more expensive than available in the 'open' market.

Before you appoint a broker, check their terms and conditions very very carefully, and try and use someone who has been recommended personally to you, so at least you can talk to someone who has had experience of dealing directly with them.

There are SOME good brokers out there, but you just need to be wary. Obviously you have access to the internet, so why pay someone else to do it for you? There are a number of sub prime (bad credit) lenders who have their own websites, why not try money supermarket for adverse credit loans, I have a couple of friends who used that website and they got on OK.

Good luck!
All depends on the APR and the small print.

Better off requesting an overdraft via your bank.
Absolutely a con! find the nearest library and read in the latest Business Week the article about Toxic Mortgages. Don't fall for this scam. You could be looking to make a $50,000 mistake!
Loan Brokers are not a con! The reason to go to a Loan broker is because the Bank says no!! They have other lenders besides the banks that approve loans and take greater risks on people who have had bad credit and late payments in the past! Just check the Better Business Bureau before you sign up with one to see if they are a legitamate business. Good Luck to you.
start off - check the creditexpert.co.uk website out first and get your own credit report and find out how bad it is. You can increase your credit rating by simply paying off cards etc regularly and not missing payments - then you can get a better credit rating and a wider choice of loans.

Beware all these guys offering you loans as they charge high rates from 7.5% to 13% for a loan which is basically like paying £7 to £13 per £100 you borrow.

if u can try and avoid borrowing more money to pay off existing debt that is the best thing.

good luck
That would be a BIG NO! Your payments would be so high that you would be saveing every penny to pay them back Also, their intrest would be about 29 to 48%,. I would think twice before going to a broker for a loan of anykind. Depending on wat you need, I would try to get someone to Co-sign a loan from a bank. Then, when you pay it off, you would have your credit restored or, on a good start.
I am a broker.

The benefit with me is I have access to tons of direct wholesale lenders, so I have a better chance of getting your loan closed because if one program gets denied, I can switch over to another lender.

The downfall is your closing costs will be a bit higher than with a direct lender. Not only do I have to charge the lender's fees, I also have my own I need to charge.

Most of us split our commission 50/50 with the company and we make money off the Yeild Spread on the interest rate, so we can usually offer much better rates than direct lenders that immediately build in 2 pnts. or higher into the rate just to cover overhead!

Each individual is going to be different.use your gut feeling.

Oh, and to mswildman.the highest rates can go is 25%.I'm not sure where you're getting your info, but it's 100% wrong. The reason you get high rates is due to you being a bad borrower (high-risk.)
if your credit is bad , tell me who is the con?
mortgage broker who wanted to help you or you ,who is looking for more credit with not so perfect payment history?
be happy if you find somebody to give you any credit at all ,and if mortgage broker will charge you extra - well, costumers like you are not easy to work with and they need to be more creative to find you the loan.
NO - DO NOT DO THIS. Your may be headed for shark infested seas.
Loan brokers, generally, are not a con. They are similar to every other broker - mortgage, insurance, etc. HOwever, they're only human - if one lender is offering them a higher commission than the others, they're likely to go with that than the one that's in your best interest!!

On the other hand, they may have access to some lenders that don't generally advertise in the main stream media.
Maybe it is not your fault your credit is bad SEEK ADVIVE and try to improve your credit first then you will SAVE CASH and be a GOOD BORROWER and get cheaper credit if you want it. DONT FALL INTO A DEBT TRAP and dont borrow more to pay off bad debts, negotiate first to get a better credit rating and pay off your debts YOU CAN GET 90 PERCENT OF YOUR DEBT CANCELLED IF YOU OFFER TO MAKE PAYMENT so better do it this way !
No loan brokers are certainly not a con. They have access to companies that will help you where 'prime' lenders wouldnt give you a second glance. Your repayments will depend on your credit history and as long as you are aware of that fact and happy to pay more if your credit rating is poor they are an ideal way to finance a car, mortgage etc.
