It might help to be a bit more specific!

Industry? Market? Target customer base? What does your company make/provide?

Besides, there is tonnes of information on this on the internet, go and find it for yourself. You will never be a market leader if this laziness is reflective of how you run your business.

You have to be proactive rather than reactive.
you have to be the best
try yahoosearch.com It works. I try to advertise my small business www 4-ecorp.com/wowow & it really works.
Give away free samples or services of your product. It shows confidence in what you're offering. Ask clients or customers to refer business to you. When you get new referrals, keep track of them and advertise how you have rewarded your clients who bring you new clients. What kind of market are you speaking of? Make sure you offer high quality with fast response and above all COMMUNICATE clearly with people, including your competitors and be polite, courteous and positive. Remember that competition is good for business if you COMMUNICATE well.
Try arson.
If you want to be the market leader in spite of a large amount of competition, you have to be unique. The first thing you should do is try to offer the best product at the lowest price. Staff your offices with the nicest people. try to put your employees in positions they will love. Most of all, have fun with what you're doing. It will al show, and the public will see it in your product.
What you need to do are as listed below;
1.Add more value to the product quality,
2.Increase the volume of product supply,
3.Introduce new idea of product development,
4.Inrease the length of advertisement, through e.g. Television programmes, Radio, Magasings, News papper, Window display, Hand bills, Posting, Signbolling, Hawking. Etc.
If you are just one of the players right now.

Occupy the CHALLENGER post first. Pacing is important. UNLESS you are the FIRST or the BEST. If you fall neither. Do not aim for the skies yet. Work out on the horizon on heaving your way up.

Until you identify where you are now. You cannot be NO.1.
sir,for me, competetion is the only way you can understand the true value of the product.Obviously for that you need to constantly improve your product quality. And for that a survey, rather a survey with full seriousness among the people who are likely to use your product, should be conducted so that you could understand what the customers desire.

You have to do one of three things:

1. Offer the cheapest service or product.
2. Offer the best service or product.
3. Offer the best value for your service or product.

This applies to any service or product.
The days of the "market leader" are long gone.

Breaking down, "market" depends on how do you define your audience and your products. Eg. Coca-Cola = Leader in the coke's market, Follower in the overall drinks market.

"Leader" in what? A classic distinction on value x volume can be made, but also, on the type of product or component, or even the company. Eg. "We are a leader in research.."

So if you want to be a leader, re-think the criteria and you will be one for sure.

If you want to make money, do 3 things:

Be the Best - Efficacy
Be the Cheapest - Efficiency
Be the Only - Innovation

. on anything!
