Is there money in interior design?
Answers:
Yes, there can be but don't expect to make a lot the first few years in practice while you are still gaining experience.
When I started working after graduating from college (1987) I was only making $20,000 per year. It took 3 years of working for other people and a geographic change to bump that up to $27,000 per year. By the time I had 5 years experience I started doing freelance work and started looking for my own clients. Finding and maintaining good client relationships is the most fruitful but it's usually "feast or famine". You have to have more than a few clients to make a good living for yourself.
I did a lot of partner projects (myself with architects on much larger projects) and by the time I had 10 years experience I was charging $50 per hour to architects for my time and $75 per hour to my clients. The last year I was a practicing interior designer (2001) my income for the year was over the $100k mark.
If you're talented.
yes. If you work hard enough to be the best of what you want to do.
As you progress make sure you are near a big population centre, i.e. a city, lots more opportunity. Smaller towns just don't have the market size to make a career or money easily.
