Is a 4.2% payrise fair when the supervisors are getting 35%?
The company I work for is offering us 4.2% (£512 per year) and has just given the supervisors for each depot an increase of £7800 per year, plus bonuses for getting us drivers to work harder. We are planning to work to rule (40 hours per week) which will prevent the drivers collecting the parcels and hitting the company in their pocket. Read my profile and respond. Thanks

First rule of life, where ever you live. LIFE AIN'T FAIR! Secondly, supervisors (whether their worth their salt or not) will get paid more than a person who is just a driver. If you're not happy with that, think about becoming a supervisor.

The average pay raise is 1% to 5%, so your in the norm. Not fair is that fat 35% raise.

Why are you being so jealous about it? If you want the big bucks why not retrain and do their job.
On the whole, most would be happy with the 4.2%, however in comparison to the supervisors rise, it would seem to be a pittance. Firstly, I would ensure that the information you have re the 35% increase is correct and not just a trouble making rumour, and if all colleagues are in agreement, go to your union or take your issues to the board of directors. Another course of action for you, maybe to re train and become a supervisor yourself.
unfortunately what they get paid has no impact on your wage rises at all, you are getting the normal rise, the only thing you can do is do a flat 40 week,
thus making your supervisors look bad.
perhaps the supervisors were on the same wages as you, and their pay rate has been adjusted to reflect their roles.
but this is not their fault, if the boot was on the other foot you would not refuse the big rise, industry has a habit of thinking supervisors actually make a difference to the work rate.
I am still waiting on a raise from January, so be thankful that you are getting anything. Standards in my place of employment are that the boss always gets more. I would like to think that it isn't that much of a difference, but who ever knows.

Payraises in general have nothing to do with fairness. they have everything to do with perception. If you're a worker, you are in a category. perhaps easy to replace. If you're a supervisor, you are seen above that category. and not quite as easy to replace. Plus, when other firms hear about 35% payraises to the supervisors, your firm may attract better managers.
I wouldn't consider it to be fair, but it is probably quite typical. I don't think you'd be able to have a moan to your boss though to be honest, as u probably aren't supossed to know how much your supervisors get paid. Even if it's common knowledge i doubt anything would done about it unfortunately.
its really unfair. but thats the way life is. its okay if you guys strike and protest. in some places though, what you are getting as a pay rise is the annual income of a married man with four kids. thats life
