Is agencies work worth doing and how do you get in?

I love working through agencies. Basically you tell them what you want and they get it for you. The problem is you have to go through MANY bad ones before you find a good one. Usually they call you in for an interview and they test your skills.
Sometimes you wait a day for an assignment, sometimes you wait a few weeks.
What I like most about it is you may find the right company and end up getting hired. You also get to dip into many different fields and meet alot of people. You also get to take days off whenever you want but some agencies give you a hard time.
The only bad thing that I can say is you don't get benefits, but they do have options available.
If you can get into it, try it.
Go into an agency and they will interview you. If you are presentable, veratile and prepared to work hard at short notice youy can do very well with agencies

Yes it is worth doing! I work for an agency and have found loads of people regular/permanent work and they have gone on to be really successful!

Yes as long as you dont need to be secure as agency work can sometimes dry up.
1) CV: Get a good one, either using a CV buidler, or read another of my answers on CV building. That will get you going.
2) Consider what areas of your town you want to work in, the type of work you want to do, and what hours you want.
3) Find agencies: Crack open a phone book under Employment Agencies and look at them. Choose the ones that operate in the sector you wish to do, ie office, IT, Sales
4) Call each agencie AND HAVE SOME PAPER AND A PEN IN HAND. They will want to ask you some details, and they will ask to send your CV.
5) If its Temping, they will want you to come in an register. Arrange it, suit up (Not the batsuit, a shirt and tie Minimum, dont do the Jeans and T-Shirt)
6) They'll sit you down for a one-on-one and aim to learn more about you.
7) Go home and wait. They may phone you quickly, they may take a while.
8) Phone them every few weeks to 'call in'. Don't phone every day, its a pain in the t1t5. Then you are on the way
Long run temping can be un-nerving, have about 12 months expenses saved up to tide you over. Short run temping is good, and can be very helpful to get a leg-up. Best of luck if you choose to go ahead.
