Most banks have many different kinds of checking accounts to choose from. Some have ones that you have a minimum balance amount in which has to remain in there but you don't have to keep putting in any certain amount in them. You may want to check into what many banks are calling "free checking", many of them with no minimum balance required. Nowadays banks have a little of everything that will cater to everyones personal needs. I recommend Bank of America or BB&T.
it depends on which country you are in.

In England we are offered basic account with no debit card or cheque book if you have a bad credit rating.

I think you may need to start off at the bottom and work up your credit and good behaviour rate with the bank.
Try Bank of Ireland!! Ive heared its great!Tough if you dont live in Ireland!!
My account with Lloyds TSB meets your request. Try going to your local branch, telling them what you want and see what they have to offer.

Most bank a/c providing cheque books do not require you to make any regular deposits. But your country may be different..
What country are you in? In the US most banks don't require any regular deposit to keep a checking account open. Obviously you do need to deposit enough to pay your bills and any checks you do write. Here most banks will let you have that account for free as well and many offer free online billpay services. Go into the banks near your home and ask.
I think you'll find one on the web. Just type in "Living in a world of your own dot com"
STAY AWAY FROM BANK OF AMERICA. U.S. bank has good free checking account. Their service is superior.
