Have you left nursing.?
Have any of you trained as an RGN / RN and then left the profession, for whatever reason? What did you do instead? Did you regret it?
Answers:
I'm not a nurse but I had a former co-worker who had a friend who was a nurse for a few years. She just decided that she didn't like it but instead enjoyed doing secretary type work instead. Apparently she did this type of work while in college. But once she left nursing had a hard time finding work because people would ask her if she planned on going back into this fearing that she would leave at some point to return to nursing.
But according to her, the friend has been working as a secretary for some time and enjoys it much more!
Not me, but my neighbour has been a nurse for 35 years and has had to leave for health reasons and they are treating her like shi!
I bailed out of a nursing program last year. Was doing auxiliary nursing in my free time also to get a feel for the job. It wasn't for me - understaffed, overworked. Depressing to see it all from the inside (this is in the UK).
Also I am very tall and wasn't doing my back any favours despite all the equipment they use nowadays.
No regrets! I keep in touch some of the students from my old program and they are all burnt out and exhausted already and they haven't even passed their exams yet.
