Software engineers that contract through their own company and are very good at what they do and specialise in a niche market often have a turnover in excess of £100,000.
Bear in mind that if working for yourself through a limited company you will be subject to different tax rules compared to an employee. Contractors usually pay less tax than employess, unless the HMRC deems you to be a disguised employee and you fall into the IR35 trap, in which case you will be forced to pay income tax and national insurance as though you were an employee.
Clever ones.
For that you'd need approx. £9000 a month. so good luck finding a job like that! For an experienced engineer in the right field you. (meaning the top of the top), you can get about £55000 a year. But thats the top end of the scale. To start of with I doubt you'd be getting more than £25000 per year.
The ones that own their own company and the ones that lie about what they make.
