How is the uk FTSE calculated?

Answers:
It is the accumulated single share value of 100 selected leading companies.
The selection (by the Financial Times) is made every three months, and if companies do not perform as expected they can be taken out, while other companies, including newcomers, can be included.

It's a weighted average of the top 100 companies on the London stock exchange by market capitalisation.

Due to the weighting the FTSE is heavily influenced by the top few companies.

The companies that make up the FTSE 100 are reviewed on a quarterly basis and component companies are promoted/relegated to/from the FTSE 250 or FTSE Small Cap
