Why does the head of Shakespeare appear on UK cheque guarantee card holograms?
Answers:
Firstly Shakespeare 's head does appear on the Switch/Maestro Bank Card (which is also used as a cheque guarantee).
I think we can all agree that the hologram is there to make it harder to duplicate the card, but I think the question is more aimed at why specifically William Shakespeare - why not another famous Briton from the past? (for example Isambard Kingdom Brunel or Charles Dickens)
the main reason actually was to foil counterfeiters as his portrait is rather complex .
It does not.
A SWITCH card has Shakespeare embossed on a hologram to make it harder to make fake cards.
A visa has the 2 flying birds, and Mastercard has the globe.
A print shop can print off credit cards (Cards with raised numbers), but they will not print cards with the holograms, or 16-20 digits that start with a 3 (Amex), 4 (Visa), 5 (Mastercard), 6 (Maestro, Switch & Solo), and I think 7 is Diners.
