My friend is going away to join the Army and I need to buy him something to take with him but what shall I buy him??

why not make him a small photo album, i know it sounds cheesy but my cuz is in the army and he told me thats what other people get each other for goin in to the army because times get tough untill you look at those pictures of good times/families etc.. It focuse's you ..

How about an 8 band worldwide radio? Next do them for about £8.00. At least he'll be able to get BBC world service whereever he goes, and hear the sports results and home news etc. OR one of those thermos cups/flasks Soldiers love them & all use them.

Give him something to remember you by. Or just ask him. Then again he might be home sooner if he cannot take the pressure of basic training.
what about taking loads of photos of you both and all your mates for him to take and look at for when he gets homesick
A Gerber utility knife specifically made for the military. Comes with a pouch for mounting with a belt. I wear one all of the time. Has pliers, knife, screwdrivers, saw blade, etc. Very handy. There are other manufacturers out there, but you get what you pay for.
When joining the army all personal possessions are taken away.
