An employee should expect someone who is reliable, friendly, they should make you feel as though you are a vital part to the working of the office.
You cant really expect them to be nice to you all the time I guess as they have alot of pressure on them from their bosses,. Construative critiscism is welcome, but constant criticising is not so good.
Someone who isn't bossy, rude and unkind. They should be fair and willing to understand the needs of their staff.
I once had a boss who I was trying to talk a problem over with and after I finished explaining the issue, she said to me "ooh, I like your shoes". Somehow I don't think she was really listening.
A good manager will set realistic goals and targets and will support staff to achieve them. A good manager should never ask their staff to do anything they are not prepared to do themselves, and should be seem to pitch in when the need arises.
The rights enjoyed by an employee is the rights he reads on his contract. so basically you have none except those that the law provides.
frankly, its really different in the "real" world especially when you have to work at the buttom of the command chain.
BUt you have the free will and choice to expect such . like say a good manager if the company youre applying to has a good track record on its corporate governance.

That they provide the tools, training and clear goals and objectives. They should not have to deal with your external personal issues (i.e. relationship problems, etc), they hire someone with certain skills and expect your to produce while you are at work.
