I want to move from Abbey National to a new bank. What is the ideal current account?
Answers:
There are so many, go to www.fool.co.uk or www.moneysupermarket.com
Depends on your preference.
Why not look at something like uSwitch for a comparison. There's loads of this type of sites now.
i'll be interested to find out the responses to this question. i'm with the abbey and really need to change from them
Ive been with First Direct for over 12 years. I think they are pretty good.
Don't go to HSBC!! I have had an ongoing battle with them for about 2 yrs! I've just moved to Lloyds TSB and so far so good. I got recommended to them by a friend who has been with them for 13 yrs.
I moved to Natwest from Abbey, and haven't looked back! Natwest are constantly reviewing my account and looking at the best options for me.Abbey didn't do this once in 5 years, even though the amount going in was dramatically increasing! They wasted opportunities with me, so I left! Plus, I like speaking to English people in England, and Abbey couldn't always allow me to do that. Natwest can!
cant fault First Direct and they bend over backwards to help you out. Bank with them 7 days a week, 24 hours a day and 365 days a year. Call centre in Leeds too so its uk based.
most from RBS
They are really not much different from each other. I like the convenience of Alliance and Leicester Giro account as I can pay in at post offices antwhere in the country if I need to put cash into my account. The premier accoiunt also gives a credit card and interest on credit balance, and free travel insurance.
im sure nationwide are doing good deals for customers that transfer from another bank, sure its 6% apr you should check out their website
Not a lot of people know this, but LloydsTSB is actually owned by Satan, and is run by a team of mindless but sadistic trolls who spend their free time dreaming of ways to make your life less pleasant.
First Direct are pretty good, but look at www.moneysupermarket.com for an *excellent* comparison site.
its really depend on your personal circumstances, for what reason you are opening account ? and what you really want to get from your account, compare your current account and you will find the answer God bless you and help you
Alliance and Leicster looked like the best to me when I switched a few months ago.
You get £50 for switching, a good rate on interest, and a free ovedraft for 12 months.
I agree with the poster who said definitely NOT HSBC. I've changed from them to Nationwide. I set it all up on-line, they sent me all the relevant forms and sorted out the switch over of all of my Direct Debits and standing orders. In fact at the moment, they are so confident it will be a smooth switch over, they will give you £50 if anything goes wrong because of an error on their part.
I've just opened a basic account with Natwest and will be using this instead of my HSBC one. HSBC are awful and their charges are horrendous!
