Where is the best place to live in Edinburgh?
I'm looking for a chance to move there but i don't really know the city and its areas, so i'm actually looking for some information as how much is the average rent for a studio flat, transport etc.
I'm also looking for a job in Design, CAD, New Product development, etc!
Does anyone know anything about it??
Answers:
I'd say Leith as it is close to centre of Edinburgh, great transport links, there is a bit of history, good places to eat out and it is not as busy as the centre of Edinburgh. I believe it is better priced as well compared to say Morningside and Corstorphine etc. Rental in Edinburgh can be anything up to a grand a month depending on the property and position. You may be better trying South Queensferry which is part of Edinburgh but 10 miles out, has easy commuting links ie train station and bus service which has rush hour lanes.
It's one of the best places to live on the planet.
But it's v. expensive. Try Stockbridge or Marchmont.
near any hospital.you'll b stched up nightly,its a hole.
If you want the top end of the market look at Costorphine and there are areas of re-development at Ocean Terminal or Leith.
But beware if you have a job in the city - the traffic is a nightmare so you are probably best to get a flat in town - rather than fight your way into the city.
The M8 is a nighmare and from crossing the forth road bridge into the centre of Edinburgh takes about an hour - this is at 10.00, not even at peak times!
But it is beautiful city, I would like to live there too.
Hope this helps
(I am an Aberdonian, not an Edinburger, so this is based on countless visits to archives in Edinburgh).
holyrood house, very spacious
If i had the choice, i'd live in Stockbridge or Dean (nice but expensive). Just about central but quiet enough so you won't be disturbed by people out socialising at night.
If you can't afford the rent in the city and need to live outside but still need to commute in for work, try not to live over the bridge. The previous poster is correct, it's a nightmare - esp at peak time.
Try espc.co.uk for property/rental info, it's the main one for all the estate agents in that area.
