my wife's in childcare, and is thinking of opening a nursery for home. what requirement are needed?
Answers:
To run your own setting in the UK (NI should be included in this) you need to be trained to at least a Level 3 qualification standard in Childcare.
You can only get a Level 3 qualification if you are already working in Childcare and have a Level 2 Childcare Qualification. The nature of a Level 3 Qualification requires reflective practice and making changes to the way you do things.
The only distance learning courses in the UK relating to Childcare are level 2.
You also need at least two years working in a Management Role within a Nursery with your level 3 qualification before you can open your own Nursery.
In addition the UK government has set out criteria for Childcare Providers, which their Nurseries must meet, and these standards are inspected by Government appointed Inspectors.
This criteria is available to download from the OFSTED website.
Good Luck - it is a long process.
I think the best thing to do owuld be to get on to your local council, theres only a certain amount of children your allow in your own property. You could also get on to your local church halls and find out how much they would charge you to hire out their hall on a weekly basis. Good luck.
