I really want to work in magazines when I am older, especially in the design side of things.?

I've always been really interested in layout and design, and really want to get into the industry, but I know it is a really competitive one and I was wondering if anyone had any advice on how to approach the people I would need to contact, and how to go about putting my ideas into action.thank you

I did work experience on Maxim men's magazine in the UK and I know that their designers changed from QuarkXPress to InDesign a few months back. Try getting work experience at a publishing company.
I have worked with many designers over the years. I have seen talented people who, because of a bad attitude, have become stuck at a lower level. My best recommendation to somebody like you starting out is this: start exploring different styles and getting doing design projects now. And work on getting the personal skills sorted out; learn how to work with others. And learn how to explain how much work you are doing and not to be nasty to other people. Some designers, under work pressure, can be really nasty. Don't be like that.
