Is the Globemaster II in Luftwaffe service yet?

On of my friends saw a "large grey military looking aircraft" taking off from BHX (Birmingham International Airport) yesterday morning. From a process of elimination I think he saw a Globemaster III, he claims to have seen a German flag on the tail but didn't notice any other markings. I know that the Germans are interested in the Globemaster III, but I haven't found anything to say they've made a purchase. If you've got any info, or can tell me what he saw (I showed him pics of likely candidates) I'd be very grateful. Thanks

No, the Brits are the only other country with the C-17A
I don't remenber.
According to Flight International magazine, 6-12 Dec. 2005, in which they issued the latest world air forces directory, there are no Globemasters in the Luftwaffe and none on order. For transport aircraft, they have on order 60 Airbus A400M.
The most likely thing your friend seen was an evaluation model painted in Gerry colours, this is common practise and could even be an RAF plane out on loan. I have seen one at RAF Lynam once when passing through (wink) looks more comfortable than a Hercy. Some interesting stuff flies from RAF Northolt too though this is now mainly used as a Private field for visiting VIPS etc
you probably wont get info for a few weeks but keep trying.
