I am 16. Is it illegal to derestrict my moped or does it have to stay at 30mph?
Answers:
doesn't matter about your age. A moped is defined as being a vehicle that has a top speed of no more than 30mph.
Plus you will void any warrenties and probably your insurance as well.
dunno but ever1 doz it m8. go 4 it
do what you want.if you get caught then you will know its illegal.
totally illegal, sorry to say, I had one of the last unrestricted Yamaha FS40's - ran it into the ground.
not sure what the restrictions on increasing the speed ability, but do know that if it is able to go over a certain speed then you will have to have a motorcycle license to drive it.
Why at 16 do you think it would be safe to go any faster than 30mph. At 30 you have a reasonable chance of survival in an accident
The laws are put in place for you to hopefully remain alive
It's better to get there slowly and in one piece than not to arrive
Stick with it and within the limits and ride to become a safe rider
In most locals that is an illegal modification no matter your age and license. It is limited that way because they are even more deadly if there is an accident with them at higher speeds.
Having said that, you can temp modify most of them so you can replace the restriction when you bring it in for maintenance or certifications.not that I would know.
illegal mate, at 16 you can only ride up to 4hp i think, do it anyway though. No one will know and if you do get stopped say that's the way you brought it! :)
Or you could be patient. At 17 you can get a half decent bike, running at 15hp, 125cc (70-100mph) and be totally legall, and your CBT will still be valid
You cant drive 33hp on a provisional. Only on a restricted full, and then you still got L plates. After two yrs on a restricted full you can drive what you like. or at 21 you can do a fast track test and ditch the Ls all together.
Depends on the local laws. But, yea, it's almost certain that the reason why anyone ever restricted the thing in the first place is because it's illegal to go over that speed.
You have to be 18 to ride any motorized vehicles.
And yes it's illegal to exceed 30mph unless you have a motorcycle license and insurance.
if it's not illeagal.. go for it. BUT.. how long do you think the engine will last? before you end up having to push it back home..
sorry its illegal
it is illegal to derestrict any vehicle at any age as the vehicle is defined on the registration papers it would also nulify your insurance
Yes. The Guidelines set out by the DVLA are that they should not travel any faster as the brakes can't cope and as you are only on a provisional lisence than the restrictions are much greater.
Sorry but if you are in the UK and 16 it would be illegal for you to ride it derestricted. At 17 you could get it deristricted and legally use it but you would need to inform DVLA and your insurance company. It may be slow but this route is more trouble than it's worth.
It is illegal. You've got a limit on your bhp until you're 17, then you can have 33bhp. Check with VOSA online
when i was 16 i had a 'moped' . it was bored out to 6occ and unresticted, took the washer out fromn the exhaust outlet, it done 65mph. !!!! nowadays mopeds are poo! mine was a yamaha fsie, 2 stroke
It has to stay at 30mph to be a moped, if you de restricts it it becomes a motorcycle and you cannot ride a motorcycle in the UK under 17. If you had owned a fuctioning brain you would have acquired a "Clasic" moped AP50 F1E or SS50ZB2 or fastest of all Garelli Rekord which had to be capable of being pedalled but had no speed limit.
30 MPH mopeds are lethal, who cares about crashing into things, anything up to 50 hardly hurts it is the moron what runs into the back of you and run you over that kills you.
LACK of SPEED KILLS,
Track down a classic Moped, 70 cc converted Honda SS 50 s are good but dont use the 5 speed ZB2 as the gears are weak use the 4 speed, do it up and have fun, still only looking at 45 cruising and make sure you keep the pedalling gear in full working order. The old FS1E is a bit of a dog speedom shows 60 at 45 and then only down hill, AP 50 is a bit faster but the Garelli, if you use a hard racing plug, which means starting on a soft plug and changing when warm or a very long push start with no choke to avoid fouling but with just a hard plug, and a bar smashed through the baffles they will do 55 almost as fast as a 125 Honda, yet as standard they are slow and prone to seizure, probably rare as hens teeth now though.
Sorry, you're stuck with it as it is. Not that the scooterboys near me care about things like that.
I believe the law is "design speed of 30mph". As long as you don't do anything too obvious like taking the baffle out of the exhaust (bad for the engine) you can get a bit more out of it.
