Answers:
OK. Stop now.. here is the definitive answer. As relayed by phone to me by my friend who is a DSA DRIVING EXAMINER.

The National Speed Limit, as denoted by a white circle with a diagonal black line is:

60mph

Other than on MOTORWAYS and DUAL CARRIAGEWAYS (upon which there is no other limit in force) where it is

70mph

I sincerely hope those of you who got it wrong are not drivers!!
Its 70 mph
60 mph., but 70 is allowed on motorways
(white circle with black diagonal stripe means 'National Speed limit of 60 mph applies)
Its 70mph
70 on the motorways.
60 on general roads.
30 in built up areas.
There are also speed limits of 40 and 50 in certain areas. So you are both correct.
70 mph. Though nobody ever sticks to it.
60 mph
It's both! It depends on the type of road - you'll see the sign for national speed limit on single lane carriageways and dual carriageways - on a single carriageway the limit is 60mph and on a dual carriageway it's 70mph. The limits may be different, but in those cases the limit will be clearly shown instead of the national limit sign.
it was 70 but it's reciently just changed down to 60 in some areas!
50 on a B road 60 on an A road 70 on duel carridge and moterways
60 miles per hour 70 on duel carriageways and motorways
70 on a dual carriage way, 60 on a single carriage way
the sign with the white circle with the black line through it means national speed limit which is 60 mph except on dual carriageways (2 lanes each side) where it is 70 mph
60 mph for trucks unless down hill
45 mph for oaps on motorways in middle lane only
100 mph for caravans till they end up smashed in a ditch where they belong
200 mph for white van man
Your both right. On a single carrigeway it is 60 and on a duel carrigeway it is 70. So both of you can give yourselfs a pat on the back and go away know that you ae both right so no hurt feelings.

Top marks.. However you forgot about

well i was saying to my partner about this question that it is sixty and she said she thought it was seventy. but again her answer just proves who are the better drivers eh. it's the white sign with the black diagonal line going through it. yeah sixty for sure.
70 m/p/h on motorways (sorry) 50 for countrylanes, 30 for housed areas with streetlights, and 40 for housed areas without streetlights.
johnny deep has it spot on with his answer
